First lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has called for family-centred initiatives and policies aimed at addressing inequality and improving child wellbeing.

In her message to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Families yesterday, she  said families play a central role in shaping society and nurturing the next generation.

She noted that this year’s theme, “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing,” highlighted the growing disparities affecting family stability and the development of children.

She said the theme drew urgent attention to the growing disparities that affect family stability and the development of children.

She added that the wellbeing of children is closely linked to the support systems available to families.

“It reminds us that the wellbeing of every child is deeply connected to the strength, security, and support systems available to their families,” she stated.

Senator Tinubu also called on stakeholders across the public and private sectors, civil society organisations, and communities to collaborate in promoting inclusion, equity, and sustainable development through family-focused initiatives.

“As we mark this important day, I call on all stakeholders including both public and private sector, civil society, and communities to work together in advancing family-centered initiatives that promote inclusion, equity, and sustainable development,” she said.

She urged Nigerians to remain committed to building stronger families and a more inclusive society.

“Let us remain committed to building stronger families and a more just society, where no child is left behind and every home becomes a foundation of love, values and prosperity,” she added.
