First lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on women in the South-East to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.
She made the appeal on Saturday at the South-East zonal APC Women Presidential Rally in Enugu, where she expressed optimism that Nigeria was approaching a period of prosperity following the economic reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs Tinubu in a statement by her media aide , Busola Kukoyi, said the country had endured the difficult phase of reforms and that the time had come for Nigerians to enjoy their benefits.
“As the president said, it is time for prosperity. You know, the pain of labour to birth a child is over. It is time for joy and prosperity,” she said.
She described the current period as a transition from the pains associated with economic reforms to the prospects of improved prosperity, urging women in the region to support the President’s second-term ambition.
She assured that President Tinubu would remain committed to transforming the country, adding that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a party that fulfilled its promises.
Mrs Tinubu also highlighted the interventions of her Renewed Hope Initiative, particularly programmes aimed at empowering women, young people and vulnerable Nigerians through financial support, skills acquisition and the provision of equipment and other tools.
As part of the rally, she flagged off the distribution of empowerment items to 5,000 women in Enugu State.
The rally was attended by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah; Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru; Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; and other APC leaders and candidates from the South-East.
Also present were the wives of the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, the APC National Women Leader and the Minister of Women Affairs.
The gathering provided a platform for APC women in the region to express support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket and mobilise grassroots backing ahead of the 2027 general elections.
