The chairman, Children of Drivers and Fishermen Association (CODAFA) Akpeja Diden, has condemned the recent attack on some members of the association and the community during the visit of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame, Atuwatse lll, to Okere community, Warri South local government area of Delta State as part of activities to mark the end of Okere community royal palace (Aghofen) guard/watch.
This was made known yesterday in a press release signed by the chairman and secretary of the association, Akpeja Romeo Diden and Akpeja Blessing Okotie respectively in Warri.
Akpeja Diden condemned the attack on members of the community including the secretary of the association who were there to rejoice with Okere community, saying it was an aberration.
According to him, such attack by some unscrupulous elements in the kingdom will no longer be tolerated.
He said; “There is only one king in Warri Kingdom and every one must come under his authority, therefore who ever feels he is too big to succumb to his authority can create his own kingdom.”
It would be recalled that Ogiame Atuwatse III visited Okere community which has been keeping watch over the palace of the Olu of Warri since December 2023.
The community will be handing over the barton to another community later this month as part of Ogiame Atuwatse III’s Ghigho Aghofẹn (royal change of guard).
As customary of the monarch, he proceeded to offer prayers and blessings after the reception and fanfare to the sacred spot of the community and just after the event ended peacefully, a band of dissidents from Okere mounted resistance which resulted in some fracas and the security on ground acted.
