National- Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has expressed satisfaction with the quality of work ongoing at the resettlement site of the new  Muregi community in Mokwa local government area of Niger State.

The new Muregi construction is due to over flow of River Niger, as a result of Kainji and Jebba Dams, the resettlement plan was initiated in 1999 but was abandoned, until the commission took over the project.

The managing director of N-HYPPADEC Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa during his inspection tour to the site said the supervision and monitoring will be sustained to ensure that the contract specifications are met.

He said the 120 units of housing contract work located at various sites was suspended around May/June due to the escalation of prices of building materials which necessitated the review of the contracts that had gotten the nod of the commission’s board for continuation of work.

Sadiq Yelwa reiterated the commitment of the commission in providing other social amenities like portable drinking water, renovation and building of additional classrooms, solar street lights to ensure security and enable them to go about their businesses without fear.

The N-HYPPADEC boss revealed that New Muregi will also be selected for its mini grid when resources are improved to make residents of the community comfortable.

He said the new Muregi resettlement project was flagged off in 1999 by the former vice president Atiku Abubakar but could not see the light of the day until the coming of N-HYPPADEC making it a reality.
