A former governor of Bayelsa State and senator representing Bayelsa West, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has raised alarm that a large part of state is under water amidst rising water levels.

Dickson, who lamented on the impact of flooding in the state, said the rampaging flood had chopped off the critical Amassoma Road and cut-off the Niger Delta University, Bayelsa International Airport and adjoining communities from the state capital.

He disclosed that the popular Sagbama/Ekeremor road had also been cut into two, thereby making the second state university, the University of Africa, Toru Orua and the state polytechnic located in Aleibiri, Ekeremor local government area inaccessible.

Senator Dickson who further revealed that the East West Road linking Delta and Rivers States had also been cut-off, lamented that with the latest development, Bayelsa State had further been isolated from other parts of the county.

Dickson therefore called on both the federal and state governments to treat the flood disaster in Bayelsa as a major challenge, and particularly begged President Muhamadu Buhari to order full mobilisation and deployment of national assets for immediate rescue operations.

While pleading with the federal government to come to their rescue he said apart from the deployment of the military, paramilitary and related agencies to combat the worsening flood menace, the deployment of relief items and medical supplies to the state should be prioritised.
