The Hydro-Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has decried the impact of floods, especially in its host communities, saying it was planning to provide safe haven for host communities affected by the flood in Niger, Kogi and Kebbi states.

Speaking at the end of a five day training on digital technology and multimedia techniques for operational efficiency for staff of the commission, the managing director, Sadiq Yelwa, said the training was organised to give the workers to improve their latent skills.

Yelwa said the commission provided food and financial support to some of the communities affected by the flood.

He also said the commission facilitated medical outreach of the affected communities in HYPPADEC areas.

The managing director said: “Just recently we have witnessed the worst flooding in Nigeria and HYPPADEC communities are the most affected. Many people have lost their houses, property and lives.

“This flooding has brought to notice to members of the public the dire environmental challenges facing the riverine communities, especially the HYPPADEC zone. There is need to do something to alleviate such challenges.”

Yelwa said the commission would give farmers affected by the floods the necessary support they require to produce more food.
