Flood at the weekend submerged Abala-Osimili community, Ndokwa East local government area of Delta State, destroying property and displacing residents.
Worst hit was Aika Ezeolu quarters where water submerged their farms.
The flood resulted from days of inflow of water from the River Niger into the community it overflowed its banks.
Most residents have moved out of the community to higher grounds while others were still on top of trees by the weekend waiting for boats to rescue them.
Secretary of the Ndokwa East LGA, Mr. Felix Edemanya urged residents to move to a safe areas, saying the council would not want to lose anybody as a result of negligence.
“We have already told and alerted the people to take precautionary measures so that they will not be cut off by the flood. They should safeguard their valuables and move out now that it has happened” he stated.
