The Association of Nigerian Women Business Network (ANWBN) has called for proactive steps and concerted efforts to avert adverse effects of famine and economic downturn posed by the twin problems of flooding and insecurity rocking the country.

The summit that brought women across the globe was held in Lagos on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

Speaking with newsmen, the National Coordinator of the association, Mrs. Modupe Oyekunle, organized a 2-day summit to build capacity in agriculture and trade, and build capacity in Agriculture, trade and businesses amidst insecurity, inflation, and flooding ravaging the country.

She said the programme with the theme, “Women Connect- Inspire, Influence, Innovate” is carefully tailored to mentor women in politics and advocate for women’s economic empowerment through access to finance and identify the potential available to female entrepreneurs, leverage on connections and maximize opportunities, become innovative and move towards scaling up their businesses.

“As a coalition, we have pursued and identified ways to make the business environment better over the years, exploring E-commerce, advocating for issues that border on women empowerment and inclusion and expand the move to greater heights, building strategic partnerships, collaboration and networking with various stakeholders on issues of women entrepreneurial development,” she said.

Oyekunle stressed that there are a lot of issues in the country such as flooding and insecurity, saying that if nothing is done to salvage the situation it might result in famine next year.

“This contributed to our effort to build our women both in businesses and in trade.  Building the capacity of women should be an opportunity for us in government is very important.

“How prepared are we ahead of opportunities that will be available? How can we strengthen ourselves because  there are a lot of things going on in the country such as insecurity, inflation, and flooding which might result in famine next year if nothing is done,” she added.
