In response to the devastating floods that struck Maiduguri, Borno State, in September 2024, The Coca-Cola Foundation and the Nigerian Red Cross Society have disbursed $400,000 to support lifesaving aid in affected communities.

The funding aims to provide critical relief efforts to more than 2,000 families across 14 wards in Maiduguri, reinforcing the importance of collective action in disaster response. The Nigerian Red Cross Society, leveraging its on-the-ground expertise, conducted assessments to identify the most vulnerable households and ensure targeted assistance.

Affected families will receive essential relief packages, including food supplies, hygiene kits, non-food essentials, and insecticide-treated nets to mitigate the risk of malaria. Additionally, cash assistance will be provided to help the most severely impacted individuals rebuild their lives.

President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, emphasised the significance of collaborative humanitarian efforts:

Together, the Nigerian Red Cross and The Coca-Cola Foundation are providing critical aid to affected families, focusing on nutrition, health, and overall well-being—especially for children, who are the most vulnerable in times of disaster. Our joint efforts will help restore hope, rebuild lives, and strengthen community resilience.”

Similarly, Carlos Pagoaga, President of The Coca-Cola Foundation, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting communities in times of need.

“Our thoughts are with those affected by the Maiduguri floods, and we appreciate the work of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in providing immediate relief, including access to food, water, sanitation, and hygiene materials. This initiative aligns with The Coca-Cola Foundation’s broader mission to support disaster response efforts,” he said.

He further stated that by partnering with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the foundation ensures that resources are allocated efficiently to address urgent needs in the impacted communities.

As recovery efforts continue, both organisations remain dedicated to providing essential assistance, reinforcing their shared humanitarian relief mission and sustainable community development.
