He said in an interview yesterday that the centre inherited colonial structures built in 1927.

Dr Usman said, “Recall that this place originally hosted the defunct Bida General Hospital built in 1927. We took it over in 1997 when the federal government established the centre.”

He said a strength and weakness analysis was conducted when he assumed duty three years ago to assess the structures. It was discovered that most of the structures needed reconstruction and restructuring.

Consequently, the medical director said that most of the wards at the centre had been reconstructed, upgraded and fully equipped.

He said that all the operating theatres at the centre have been upgraded and fully equipped, adding that the new children’s emergency ward and trauma centre started from the foundation have been completed.
