The campaign team of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the upcoming election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has asked the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to focus on its candidate case at the Court of Appeal rather than engaging in smear campaigns against the APC candidate, Monday Okpebholo, who is not responsible for what they called their political misfortune.

The team, in statement signed by Legislative Aide to the Senator Okpebholo on Media & Communication, Godswill Inegbe, said since July 4, 2024, when the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the PDP primary election that produced Asue Ighodalo as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming governorship election, the PDP has been in disarray.

Inegbe said in a desperate attempt to recover, the PDP has resorted to allegedly spreading falsehoods against the undisputed.

He noted that the landmark judgement by Justice Inyang Ekwo has severely impacted the PDP, leading to widespread disillusionment among its members.

Describing it as a futile struggle to regain footing, Inegbe said the party was paying unidentified individuals to circulate baseless stories against APC governorship candidate, Senator Okpebholo.

He noted that the latest in the series of paid propaganda was the unfounded claim that Senator Okpebholo has enrolled in an adult education class to learn basic subjects.

“It is important to set the record straight: Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Abuja and has completed his thesis for a Master’s in Governance and International Relations from the same institution.

“We sympathize with the PDP in their current political frustration following the nullification of their primary election results. However, we advise them to focus on their appeal at the Court of Appeal rather than engaging in smear campaigns against the APC candidate, who is not responsible for their political misfortunes,” he stated.
