Popular content creator, Abiri Tobi Folagade, widely known as Folagade Banks, joined Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary celebration held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, on Tuesday.
The event, which brought together political leaders, entertainers, and dignitaries from across the country, was a vibrant display of unity, culture, and patriotism.
Banks, who attended as one of the special guests from the creative industry, described the experience as “an honour and a privilege to celebrate Nigeria’s journey alongside visionary leaders and proud citizens.”
Speaking shortly after the parade, Banks expressed his appreciation for being part of the historic celebration. “Standing here today among leaders and citizens who believe in Nigeria’s progress fills me with so much hope,” he said. “It’s a reminder that no matter our different paths, we all share one dream — a greater Nigeria.”
He also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its efforts in promoting national unity and economic reform, noting that positive change often takes time and collective commitment. “Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we’re seeing conversations about growth, inclusion, and development take center stage,” Banks remarked. “This gives young people like me the confidence to keep contributing our bit to nation-building through creativity.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his address, urged Nigerians to embrace resilience and optimism, emphasizing that the nation’s 65 years of independence reflect both challenges and triumphs. Governor Adeleke echoed the sentiment, calling for stronger inter-state collaboration to foster cultural and economic renewal across Nigeria.
Banks, who is known for using comedy to address social issues, said the event deepened his sense of patriotism and commitment to portraying Nigeria positively through his craft. “As comedians and storytellers, we have a responsibility to remind Nigerians that laughter is also a form of healing,” he said. “Even in our toughest moments, we can still celebrate the strength that binds us together.”
The celebration featured a colorful parade, traditional performances, and musical renditions by top Nigerian artists. Guests also enjoyed a cultural showcase that reflected Nigeria’s rich diversity and artistic excellence.
Expressing gratitude to the Lagos State Government for the invitation, Banks described the celebration as a reflection of “Nigeria’s unbroken spirit and cultural beauty.” He said, “Events like this remind us that Nigeria is not just surviving but thriving through the creativity, resilience, and faith of its people.”
As the event drew to a close, Folagade Banks reiterated his belief in a brighter future for the nation. “Nigeria at 65 is not just a milestone — it’s a promise,” he said. “And I’m proud to be part of a generation that celebrates the past, learns from it, and dreams boldly about the future.”
