Food Security: Gov Buni Assures More Agric Interventions, Other Support For Farmers

As part of efforts to ensure food security, the Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni has restated the commitments of his administration towards providing more agricultural interventions among other support for farmers for better results.

Buni who stated this while flagging off the distribution of 30, 000 bags of 10kg rice donated to the state by the Dangote foundation in Damaturu appealed to the people of the state to take advantage of the government’s intervention in agriculture for improved agricultural production in the 2025 cropping season.

The governor had in a statement issued by the director general Press Affairs and Media, Alhaji Mamman Mohamed said, “As we prepare for this year’s cropping season, I urge you to massively engage in agriculture to ensure food sufficiency and food security.

“This administration would continue to support agricultural development through provision of more machines and equipment, improved seeds, pesticides and insecticides to make agriculture attractive, lucrative and profitable”.

He explained that the international business community in Qatar and Morocco have indicated interest in sesame seeds, Gum Arabic, livestock and other agricultural products produced in the state.

“We will take advantage of this opportunity to support the farming  population in the state and all others with interest in agriculture to facilitate the economic recovery programme of the government for the benefit of our people.

“I therefore, appeal to our youth to explore the potential in agriculture. Government would accord you a very special recognition, and support you with working tools to succeed and to become economically self-reliant,” Gov. Buni said.

The governor commended the Dangote Foundation for supporting  vulnerable persons in the state to meet their food needs.

Governor Buni directed the community and local  government distribution committees to accord priority to the weak, vulnerable, Persons Living with Disability and victims of fire disaster in the rice distribution.
