Former Arise News anchor and aspirant for Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, House of Representatives, Dr. Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Ikokwu announced her move in a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja titled, “A Strategic Realignment for Purposeful Service,” citing the urgency created by the fast-approaching party primaries and shifting political dynamics.

She said the last few days had been hectic, especially in light of the limited time remaining for party primaries across the country.

Ikokwu described the decision as difficult, noting that she hails from Anambra State where recent political realignments are expected to be strongly felt.

According to her: “I had to make a quick and tough decision to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after careful reflection. With the level of uncertainty, shifting alliances, and ongoing realignments across the political space, it is important to find a platform that is stable, forward-looking, and aligned with the vision for meaningful engagement. As part of these broader movements, key elements of the coalition I identify with, found a home within the NDC, making this transition both timely and necessary.”

She continue: “Ultimately, my focus remains clear: to reach the destination where I can effectively serve the people. This move is about positioning, ensuring that I am on a platform that offers the right atmosphere, strength, and opportunity needed to translate commitment into tangible service and impact for my constituency.”

Ikokwu said she remains committed to the ideals of accountable leadership, people-centered governance, and progress.

She also appealed for the understanding and continued support of her supporters and stakeholders, urging them to move forward with renewed purpose and determination.

She ended with her mantra: “Politics for Public Good. Take Back Your Government.”
