Former Delta Assembly Speaker Victor Ochei Dumps APC

Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his decision was driven by the need for broader political growth and a renewed commitment to public service.

Ochei’s resignation was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Dr. Austin Edemodu, following what he described as extensive consultations and deep reflections with political associates and supporters.

According to the former lawmaker, he joined the APC in 2016 with sincerity and a firm belief in the vision of the party, adding that he had spent the last decade contributing significantly to its growth and consolidation at different levels.

“Together with many committed party faithful, we expanded the party’s reach, strengthened its structures, mobilised support across communities, and worked tirelessly to give the party relevance and visibility within our political environment,” he said.

Ochei noted that his commitment to leadership, grassroots development, and public service predates the emergence of many current leaders within the party.

He expressed pride in the achievements recorded through years of political engagement, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, women inclusion, and democratic development.

The former Speaker, however, stressed that political leadership and institutions must continue to evolve in ways that reflect fairness, inclusiveness, and the aspirations of the people.

“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” he stated.

He maintained that his decision to leave the APC was not borne out of bitterness or resentment, but inspired by his enduring desire to serve the people and contribute meaningfully to political progress.

“This decision is not borne out of bitterness, resentment, or hostility toward anyone. Rather, it is inspired by my enduring commitment to service, progress, and the political future I envision for our people,” he added.

Ochei thanked supporters, stakeholders, and party faithful who stood by him during his time in the APC, while urging his associates to remain peaceful, united, and committed to democratic ideals.

“As I move forward to continue my political journey beyond the APC, I do so with hope, renewed determination, and faith in the future,” he concluded.

He also prayed for peace, unity, and sustained progress in Delta State and the country at large.
