Chikelue Iloenyosi, a former Super Eagles defender and current Chairman of the Anambra State FA, has publicly backed Enyimba Chairman Nwankwo Kanu, calling for unity and support instead of criticism as the club faces a challenging run of form.
Iloenyosi stressed that Kanu, now an administrator, should not be blamed for on-pitch issues. “Kanu is an administrator now. He is no longer a football player,” Iloenyosi stated, adding, “His job is to ensure Enyimba moves to the next level in Nigerian and African football.”
He attributed Enyimba’s struggles to recruitment, suggesting they “did not get the right players, and that is why they are losing matches — even at home.”
Iloenyosi also referenced the departure of former Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme, who was initially blamed for the club’s woes. “For peace sake, Kanu asked him to resign. Now they know that he was not the cause of the issue.”
He urged the club to consult experienced former executives like Felix Anyasi-Agwu and Jude Anyadufu, who possess invaluable knowledge of Nigerian football. “Anyasi-Agwu is a guru in Nigerian league football… The same thing with Jude Anyadufu. These are people that should be consulted.”
Iloenyosi concluded by reiterating that stability and collective effort are crucial. “Kanu is not the problem… Support him. Hold meetings. Get the right players. Put the right structures in place. That is the solution.”
