Former UNIBEN VC, Oshodin, Dies At 71

A former vice chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin is dead.

The death of the erudite scholar was contained in a statement signed by his brother, Christopher Oshodin, on behalf of the family and made available to newsmen in Benin. In the statement he said the former UNIBEN VC died in the early hours of Sunday, at the age of 71.

The statement reads in part: “It is a time of grief for us children, and family as we mourn his sudden death.

“Kindly be informed that, the family shall in no distant time release details of his burial arrangement just as we pray to God to comfort those he left behind in this period of our mourning.”

Oshodin was born in 1950 in Benin City. He attended the Western Boys High School, Benin City; Federal School of Science, Lagos State; Central State University Ohio; Columbia University of New York City, United States and received a Doctor of Education Degree (Ed.D) from Teachers College, Columbia University of New York City in 1980.

He joined UNIBEN as research fellow in 1981 and became the vice chancellor of the university in 2009. Until his death, he was a professor of health education.
