The Forum of Governing Council Members of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria (FOGOCOM) has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s impact in tertiary education sector in the country.
The Forum gave the commendation after a one-day General Meeting/Retreat in Abuja, themed “Empowering Tertiary Institutions for National Transformation: The Governing Council’s Role in Realigning the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The Forum used the occassion to unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the President in revitalizing Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, and endorsed his re-election in 2027.
In a communiqué issued at the close of the retreat and made availabletoLEADERSHIP, the Forum applauded the substantial increase in funding allocated to various tertiary education institutions nationwide, a move that has significantly bolstered institutional capacity.
“The timely appointments and inauguration of Governing Councils across institutions were commended for enhancing efficiency in institutional management and fostering improved oversight.
“The approval and payment of backlog allowances owed to tertiary institution workers were celebrated for creating stability and significantly improving learning conditions across campuses.
“FOGOCOM acknowledged the ongoing massive infrastructure development projects across tertiary institutions, which are transforming learning environments and supporting academic pursuits.
“The establishment of various organs within tertiary institutions was recognized for enhancing checks and balances, leading to improved proper management and accountability.”
FOGOCOM emphasized the critical importance of mutual synergy between Pro-Chancellors, Governing Council members, and the management of tertiary institutions to ensure the sustained progress of the education sector.
The Forum strongly recommended redoubled efforts to protect tertiary institutions, government infrastructure, and citizens across the country.
The Forum extended its congratulations to all Governing Council members for their dedication and crucial role in improving and repositioning tertiary institutions in alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
During the meeting, a motion moved by Hon. Jude Ogbeche Ngaji, PhD, stipulating that the interim national body of FOGOCOM should continue to stand until proper elections are called, was unanimously passed.
In a resounding endorsement of President Tinubu’s performance, a motion for his re-election in 2027, moved by Hon. Jude Ogbeche Ngaji, PhD, and seconded by Hon. Faisal Lawal, was cheerfully passed by the Forum.
