A non-governmental organisation, Dorcas Sustainable Global Initiative, in collaboration with Jane Cares Foundation (Agudo Global) has appealed to the Enugu State government and other organisations for support for ongoing efforts to touch the lives of widows, orphans and indigent people in the society.
The NGO said it has so far empowered no fewer than 3,500 widows and indigent people including a 154-year-old widow within the last eight years.
Overcome with emotion, the 154-year-old widow identified as Elizabeth Arum from Akegbe Amagu Ugwu almost broke down in tears while narrating how life had been a daily struggle, adding that the support rekindled the hope she thought was long gone.
Convener of Dorcas Sustainable Global Initiative, Hon. Adaora Ginika Aneke made the appeal in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Enugu.
“We are pleading with the state government and other organizations that can support us in any way they can in touching the lives of the widows, orphans and indigents both financially and materially because whenever we do programmes we support them with foodstuffs, wrappers etc, and scholarships for the Orphans and our medical outreaches also comes with drugs and medical checkup” she stated.
She described what her organisation has been doing in the past eight years as a call of God adding that the passion to give inspired her to begin supporting widows, orphans and the indigents.
