A total of150 Ogun State women farmers have participated in a two-day workshop organised for women in agriculture as part of the strategic advocacy to empower the women in agriculture through the transformative power of technology.
The workshop, which was packaged by the Azeez Adeola Community Care Foundation (AACCF) saw the participants being trained in the areas of agri-finance; provisions of grants and tech tools; training in agricultural fundamentals; record keeping practice and financial management.
At the event, themed: “Agritech Empowering Women in Agriculture Through Technology” held in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun East Senatorial District, its convener, Azeez Adeola said the it was packaged to honour the 2024 edition of the International Women’s Day (IWD) held on Friday, 8th March as well as to celebrate Nigerian women’s efforts in promoting a better society “through agriculture and food production.
In her welcome remarks, Azeez advocated that the trio of federal, states as well as the 774 local governments in Nigeria must evolve an intervention method that addresses the concerns and needs of women in agriculture if the country must guarantee her self-sufficiency in food production.
Azeez listed these concerns and needs to include unlimited access to funding; machinery, as well as agricultural inputs such as fertilizer and feeds among other.
“It is no news that women are the bedrock of every industry and agriculture is no exception. Adeola Azeez Community Care Foundation decided to celebrate women in agriculture in Ogun state in commemoration of International Women’s Day 2024.”
