Founder and president of the SAM Empowerment Foundation, Dr. (Mrs.) Aisha Achimugu has empowered over 100 women and persons with disabilities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in vocational skills – hairdressing, fashion designing and food processing.
The programme director of the foundation, Mrs Kiema Ogunlana, said the initiative aims to promote financial independence and self-sufficiency among beneficiaries.
She added that as part of activities marking her 52nd birthday, Dr Achimugu donated 10 oxygen cylinders, settled the medical bills for indigent patients and distributed gift items to patients at the National Hospital, Abuja.
Ogunlana said the initiative celebrates Dr Achimugu’s “twelve years of quietly, consistently, and sacrificially answering one question: ‘How can I help?’”
Dr Achimugu announced that the Foundation would donate 10 oxygen cylinders monthly to the National Hospital as part of its ongoing support for Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Chairman of the hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Isiaka Lawal, thanked the Foundation for the timely donation, noting that many indigent patients struggle to afford even basic medications.
Patients and beneficiaries commended Dr Achimugu for her philanthropy, urging other Nigerians and organisations to emulate her gesture.
