A non-governmental organisation (NGO) committed to human capital development and other social interventions in Nigeria, has expressed concern over high rate of unemployment, diseases and decay in public utilities in the country.
Noting that these social challenges must not be left on the shoulders of government alone, the Jacob Idungafa Charity Foundation (JICF) has, over the years, launched interventions in the areas of scholarships, free healthcare services, social empowerment and poverty alleviation schemes for the vulnerable poor.
Addressing journalists in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the chief executive officer (CEO), Jacob Idungafa, disclosed that his Foundation’s charity work continues this weekend with the commissioning of a reconstructed classroom block for the Government Primary School (GPS), Ikot Edong, in the Ukanafun local government area.
Besides, Idungafa disclosed that over 2,000 youths would be empowered to build their capacities in different locations to make them self-reliant in order to curb over-reliance on government.
He explained that he was driven by a passion for helping in community development and social empowerment, especially education, which is the key to the future development of the youth.
According to him, the project was not restricted to Akwa Ibom alone but also to other states in Nigeria, especially Rivers, where the foundation had intervened in school projects.
He listed other projects executed by the organisation to include grading of all major internal roads , solar lighting along Ukanafun Ekparakwa road, free medical outreach for the people of Ukanafun, Oruk Anam and Etim Ekpo local government areas as well as provision of foodstuffs and wrappers for women to cushion effects of hardship.
