Dame Anne Uzoagwu Foundation (DAUF), a non-governmental organisation, has built and handed over a special school to the Isingwu Amizi Community, Ikwuano local government area of Abia State.

Named Dame Anne Comprehensive Academy in memory of Dame Anne Uzoagwu, a late philanthropist in the area, the school offers formal education, vocational training, and adult education programmes.

Speaking at a meeting yesterday, three years after the completion and commencement of academic activities at the school, the president of Friends of DAUF, Adaku Onwuasomba, lauded the members for their presence.

Onwuasomba said the school was established to provide services in those areas, train youths in vocational skills to make them self-sufficient, and checkmate mass rural-urban migration among them.

She said, “Recently, DAUF donated food and other items and empowered some women in the community, especially the widows, to ensure their kids don’t drop out of school.”

She appealed for financial assistance and technical and artisanal support from philanthropists, the community, and the general public to enable DAUF to deliver on its mission.

In a welcome address earlier, Austin Uzoagwu, the chairman of DAUF and one of Dame Uzoagwu’s sons said DAUF had produced five graduates and offered scholarships to six undergraduates.

“It has also trained youths in hairdressing and make-up making and established a farm in Idima Abam.”
