Foundation Holds Cancer Awareness, Fundraising Campaign October 28

Medicaid Cancer Foundation (MCF) has expressed gratitude to its supporters for their unwavering commitment to raising cancer awareness and providing essential assistance to those battling this devastating disease.

In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Abuja, yesterday, the founder of MCF and former first lady of Kebbi State Dr Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu said the foundation is thrilled to announce its annual awareness and fundraising campaign, #WalkAwayCancer, on October 28th, 2023.

She said this year’s event, themed “A March of Hope,” is dedicated to raising awareness about cancer and mobilising support for individuals confronting this formidable adversary.

Since its inception in 2009, MCF, has been at the forefront of cancer advocacy in Nigeria and has become a beacon of hope for cancer patients and their families, offering compassion and vital support during their journey.

From 2012 to the present, she noted MCF has achieved significant milestones. It has conducted over 50 sensitization programmes, reaching more than 25,000 individuals across various communities; Distributed 50,000+ informational brochures and pamphlets to hospitals, clinics, and public spaces; Reached over 1 million people on social media with cancer awareness messages, generating over 25,000 engagements;

Subsidized chemotherapies for 67 cancer patients through the Patient Access Programme (PACE); Provided free mammography services to over 2000 women; Offered emotional and financial support to 200+ cancer patients and their families;

Organized free cancer screening camps, benefiting over 100,000 individuals.

“Our annual free breast and cervical cancer screenings are part of our commitment to provide accessible and affordable healthcare for women as well as educate the general public on the most common form of cancer affecting women,” she said on the coming event.

In the area of research and development, she said MCF has contributed N10,000,000 to innovative cancer research studies and fostered partnerships with renowned Nigerian and international researchers.

In terms of fund raising activities she revealed that the foundation has raised over N40,000,000 through its annual charity walk event and cultivated strategic relationships with corporate sponsors and partners.

She stated that there are many ways to get involved in the fight against cancer with MCF. This include joining the #WalkAwayCancer event on October 8th, 2023, at 7:00 am.

“Purchase Walk Kit: T-shirts, Facecaps, Wristbands, Waterbottles.

Sponsor the walk to help cover event costs and expand cancer screening.

Donate to the Foundation via its online platform, bank transfer, cheque, or cash.

Contribute in cash or kind; goods and services are welcome,” she added.
