The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA), in collaboration with Dettol, has inducted 80 students in Kwara’s Ilorin East local government area as ambassadors of its Hygiene Quest Programme.
At the event, the WBFA’s director of Programming and Reporting, Dr Osinachi Onyeoziri, said the initiative aimed to nurture a culture of hygiene and health among school children.
Onyeoziri, represented by Mr Kehinde Akinsola, WBFA’s national programmes manager, said the programme, implemented in collaboration with Reckitt, producers of Dettol, was designed to create lasting behavioural change beyond a one-off workshop.
He said that as a sustainability measure, Hygiene Quest Clubs were being established in schools and would be led by the inducted ambassadors.
“These clubs will ensure that hygiene education and advocacy continue after the banners are down and workshops concluded.
“You will lead handwashing demonstrations, hygiene campaigns, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) activities, keeping the momentum alive.
“Your role is to inspire your peers, engage your teachers and influence your communities because you are not just participants, you are leaders, innovators, and changemakers,” he stated.
During the event, the nurse educator, Miss Chukwu Roseline, taught the students proper handwashing techniques to prevent the spread of germs.
In his remarks, the commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, described the initiative as commendable and noted that it would improve students’ overall well-being.
The commissioner, represented by the deputy director and desk officer, Mr Yisa Joshua, urged the students to share their knowledge with their peers.
