A non-governmental organisation, Fati’Imma Ansary Cancer Care Foundation has called on women to regularly carry out cancer tests to know their state of health.

The founder of the NGO, Hajiya Fatimah Sani made the call yesterday in a chat with newsmen in Bauchi, saying that every woman, especially a childbearing woman, is supposed to undergo the test to know her status.

She expressed regret that despite the foundation’s persistent calls for free tests, most women do not bother about the test until a problem develops in the body and it is only then that they would start looking for the services of their foundation.

Sani recalled that during their recent two enlightenment programmes, they were able to conduct tests on over 240 women, with eight of them having symptoms of different types of cancer, who were later invited to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi to see a doctor or consultant.

Hajiya Fatimah revealed that there are about 100 different types of cancer, but the foundation is concerned with those affecting childbearing women.

“We also conduct tests on victims of gender-based violence where the foundation collaborates with lawyers that will stand in for the victims in the court during litigations, and we commend the office of the state’s first lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed for her day-to-day assistance to violence victims in the state,” she said.
