In a bid to curb infectious diseases like Cholera currently ravaging the country, a non-profit organisation, Wilson Akpan Foundation (WAF) yesterday revealed that it had embarked on provision of healthcare facilities in developing communities and the building of sick bay facilities for pupils in schools within and outside Lagos.
In his address at the commissioning of a sickbay facility project at Pastor Adegboyega Memorial Primary School in the Ketu area of Lagos, the chief executive officer and founder, Wilson Akpan Foundation, said there should exist government and private sector partnership on provision of amenities in schools to improve the health of pupils which will aid their learning in a conducive environment.
He stated, “There is a cholera outbreak and we found that the easiest way to combat this outbreak is to make sure that we have preventive measures on ground with the sickbay now, we are going to majorly public schools knowing that the major hit of this cholera pandemic is the public.’’
According to him, its collaboration with Inner City mission, an arm of Loveworld Foundation facilitated the commission of the sickbay sponsored by Wilson Akpan Foundation, adding that it is striving to address healthcare challenges through the provision of affordable and accessible healthcare facilities to communities and public schools.
He added that, “Our initiative project has embodied collective effort to resolve and bridge the gap between healthcare demand and supply in schools, empowering local communities, building resilience for young entrepreneurs, mentoring and granting scholarship for a well deserving student through targeted investments, capacity-building initiatives, and innovative approaches to service delivery.’’
Akpan added that the major vision of the foundation is to train, empower the youth to be productive in society, and raise young entrepreneurs within Lagos and outside Lagos.
