Amid challenges posed by parenting a child with disability, the Chinua Children Care Foundation has called for more support for children with disabilities in Nigeria.

The coordinator of Chinua Children Care Foundation, J’odie, the Kuchi Kuchi Crooner, who made the call, in a press statement, made available to LEADERSHIP Weekend, said most parents who are raising children with disabilities have to deal with many co-occurring difficulties, such as financial, time burden of medical treatment and other therapeutic interventions.

To alleviate their sufferings, J’odie, has called out to Nigerians for financial support to empower more mothers with special-needs children in the country.

The veteran musician disclosed that the Foundation recently engaged in an outreach programme for special mothers at Iyana Ipaja, Lagos and Sango in Ogun State, adding that the third batch is set to happen at Kado Kuchi in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

She said the outreach programme in these three states is targeted to celebrate, empower and encourage mothers with special-needs children, a highly marginalised group in the society.

“The budget for the holiday outreach was raised by Nigerians in the diaspora, coordinated by Tolu and Udo. Bags containing: rice, seasoning cubes, vegetable oil, tomato paste and N5,000 cash were distributed to 87 special mothers each.

“What started as a social media outburst has evolved into a movement of hope, empowerment and care for humanity,” she disclosed.
