The National Freight Hauler Association (NFHA) has set an agenda for a comprehensive overhaul of the transportation industry in Nigeria, which includes unified ticketing to tackle critical challenges and presenting a visionary roadmap for the future.

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, during the 2024 national convention, the newly elected president, Chief Christian Odoh, highlighted the imperative for a paradigm shift and collective action to reshape the narrative surrounding the industry’s struggles.
Acknowledging the intricate nature of the challenges, Odoh detailed strategic meetings with key stakeholders, including The Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
He emphasised the importance of collaboration and unity to foster positive change.

“With the special grace of God, everything will be normalised when we come on board. We are committed to slashing taxes and bringing about positive changes in the transportation sector,” he said.
Odoh outlined plans to address sectoral issues, pledging a significant reduction in taxes.
He, however, introduced the concept of a streamlined ticketing system aimed at simplifying loading and offloading processes, enhancing efficiency, and alleviating financial burdens on haulers.
“We are dedicated to reducing the challenges faced by our industry. By unifying the ticketing process, we aim to make operations more seamless and cost-effective,” he said.

Reassuring Nigerians grappling with the industry’s current challenges, Odoh urged calm and expressed confidence that, with the support of his team and by the grace of God, normalisation is on the horizon.
Trustee 1 of NFHA, Elder Isaac Chukwu, expressed his support despite health challenges, stating, “Even though I am not feeling strong, I have to be here today to show my support and gratitude to God Almighty for what he has done.”

Also speaking, the national secretary of NFHA, Alhaji Muhammad Mbaba, addressed the impact of hardship on the industry, attributing it to subsidy removal.
He suggested a thorough review and planning ahead of any subsidy removal to mitigate the challenges faced by both companies and the industry as a whole.
