The embassy said that by sharing insights and knowledge about common laws and legal practices, countries can enhance mutual respect and collaboration, which is crucial in addressing global challenges and promoting unity in an increasingly interconnected world.

The call was made during the recent Legal Day event held at the French Institute in Wuse, Abuja, where the attendees engaged in an enlightening quiz session featuring law-related questions from countries such as France, Nigeria, Japan, Singapore, South Africa and other concerns. Three winners emerged from the quiz contest.

In a chat with LEADERSHIP, the cooperation attaché at the French Embassy, Ketty Régis, said the initiative was from the French government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Justice.
Régis emphasised the importance of being informed about a country’s laws as it fosters understanding and bridges cultural gaps.

She announced plans to expand the initiative to states where Alliance Française has a presence, including Port Harcourt and Lagos.

“The upcoming legal day events will feature a variety of activities and projects centered around the legal framework of different countries.”

Also, a French teacher and the moderator for the quiz session, Hilary Onuora, said, “The knowledge of the French language puts people on a global level. It is very advisable to join the institute to broaden your knowledge in French and general knowledge.”

On her part, the winner of the quiz competition, Odi Lagi, praised the initiative for highlighting the significance of understanding international laws.

She thanked the French embassy for its strategic efforts in bridging knowledge gaps. Reflecting on her success in the competition, she credited her victory to insights gained from her experience as a human rights activist in Nigeria.
