For many entrepreneurs, the journey from passion to profit is marked by uncertainty, sacrifice and resilience. For Kemisola Olowookere, founder of Okg_Chops, that journey has been defined by determination, innovation and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
What began as a passion for creating delicious meals has evolved into a thriving culinary business, reflecting her dedication to quality, customer satisfaction and continuous growth.
From a modest home kitchen to owning a walk-in restaurant, Kemisola’s entrepreneurial journey underscores what is possible when passion is backed by hard work and persistence.
Long before she ventured into business, Kemisola developed a deep passion for cooking. This interest became evident in her secondary school years, where she studied Food and Nutrition, laying the foundation for what would later become a thriving enterprise.
Interestingly, her academic pursuit took a different path as she proceeded to the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, where she studied Building Technology. However, her passion for culinary arts remained alive.
That passion, combined with inspiration from her mother, whom she describes as an excellent cook, eventually birthed Okg_Chops in April 2021.
Like many small business owners in Nigeria, the early days were fraught with challenges.
One of the major hurdles she encountered was the persistent problem of electricity supply, which affected the preservation of food items and raw materials.
The challenge was so severe that she often had to dispose of ready-to-fry proteins due to spoilage caused by power outages.
Rather than allow the setbacks to discourage her, Kemisola pressed on, determined to build a sustainable business.
Over time, she began to carve a niche for herself by leveraging social media, not only to market her products but also to educate people about healthy eating and lifestyle choices.
Her ability to combine culinary expertise with engaging digital content has helped Okg_Chops stand out in an increasingly competitive market.
The entrepreneur attributes much of her growth to consistency, innovation and an unrelenting desire to offer customers value.
Starting from scratch, she admits, was far from easy. Yet, focus, discipline and belief in her vision kept her moving.
The business recorded a major milestone on January 3, 2026, when Okg_Chops expanded beyond online operations with the launch of a walk-in restaurant.
“We added another feather to our cap when we launched our walk-in restaurant on January 3, 2026. So now, we have both a restaurant and a small chops shop,” she said.
For Kemisola, customer satisfaction remains at the heart of the business.
“I give maximum value for their money. I also make sure I check on my Okg lovers at least twice a month, and we also grow through referrals,” she explained.
This commitment to quality service has not gone unnoticed.
Today, Okg_Chops has attracted notable personalities within the entertainment industry, with Kemisola providing culinary services to celebrities while also creating engaging content around her experiences.
Despite the growth, the entrepreneur acknowledges that the business environment remains challenging.
“It is a bittersweet experience, I must admit, especially with low sales, power outages, the economy, and lack of funds to improve our business. Yet, we appreciate God because we are still moving stronger,” she said.
Nonetheless, she believes that value creation and exceptional customer service remain the most effective strategies for sustaining any business.
“By giving value and having the best customer service possible. Every customer means the world to us,” she noted.
Looking ahead, Kemisola has set ambitious goals for Okg_Chops. She envisions expanding across the South-West region, becoming a household name and maintaining high standards across all outlets.
Beyond building a successful enterprise, she is equally passionate about inspiring young people to pursue entrepreneurship.
Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is simple but profound.
“Money will come, but not immediately. And never think you will find it easy, you have to keep on working and finding out better ways to do things better and never to give up but continue to show excellence in what you do,” she said.
She also encourages young people to acquire relevant skills and allow passion, rather than the pursuit of quick money, to drive their entrepreneurial ambitions.
For Kemisola Olowookere, the journey from a home kitchen to a flourishing restaurant business is still unfolding. But her story already serves as a compelling reminder that with passion, resilience and innovation, dreams can indeed rise from humble beginnings to become thriving enterprises.
