The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has coordinated alcohol tests on commercial vehicle drivers in Rivers State.
The tests were carried out on drivers of Rivers Link Express Company Limited, Ameosa Transport Company and Akwa Ibom State Transport Company.
Speaking with journalists, leader of the enlightenment team and head of operations, FRSC, Rivers State, Chukwudi Mbaegbu, said the exercise was to ensure safety of drivers and passengers on the roads.
Mbaegbu said: “Our duty is to ensure that drivers and passengers who board their vehicles get to their destinations. That is the essence of our coming here.
“The FRSC management has directed that we should go to different parks to talk to drivers on the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“Driving under the influence of alcohol can led to lack of concentration. When you are under the influence of alcohol, you don’t see objects on the road clearly like when you are driving with your normal eyes.”
The manager of Rivers Link Express Limited, Dennis Mojekwu thanked the FRSC for the enlightenment and testing assuring the commission that drivers of the company would continue to obey the rules of driving on the highway.
