Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has kicked off a four-day special enforcement tagged: “Operation Show Your Driver’s Licence” in Rivers State.
The FRSC sector commander in the state, Salisu Gallanduci, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt yesterday, said the aim was to stem the tide of reckless driving in the state.
Gallanduci said: “The move became necessary upon discovering recently the rate at which motorists drive without driver’s licence on the highways in Rivers State, which is against the provisions of the laws of the state and the federation.
“The rate at which motorists speed on the highways within Port Harcourt metropolis is worrisome, thus the need to checkmate it by ensuring motorists who ply the roads are first of all licenced to drive.”
The sector commander directed operatives of the corps in Port Harcourt, Eleme, Ahoada, Isiokpo and Bonny Island, to vigorously embark on the special enforcement to clamp down on those who go against the laws.
He stated that his men were trained to operate strictly under the principles of being fair, firm and friendliness.
Gallanduci advised the general public to be law abiding and to give the FRSC personnel the necessary cooperation to achieve the target of the enforcement.
He said, “This is being done in the best interest of the good people of Rivers State, since one who drives without driver’s licence is as good as one who is driving with licence to kill.”
