The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed additional officers and tow trucks along the Abuja–Lokoja Expressway to ease the traffic congestion on the corridor, which has caused heavy gridlock for two days now.
Passengers on the road, which connects the North and the Southern parts of the country, have been stuck on the road for over two days.
One of the passengers, identified as John Obe, who tweeted about the traffic gridlock, blamed the cause on the bad road and lack of patience by motorists travelling that axis.
The gridlock, which has lasted for over 48 hours, is most intense around Koton-Karfe axix, causing significant delays for commuters and travellers.
There were also other reports indicating that the congestion was triggered by two fallen trucks blocking the roadway, worsening the already heavy traffic on the busy holiday route.
In order to ensure the swift removal of any obstruction and free up the road, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, ordered the deployment of more assets.
He also said the congestion was caused by increased vehicular movement, ongoing construction works, and undisciplined drivers moving against traffic.
He urged motorists travelling along the route to cooperate with FRSC personnel to maintain smooth traffic flow.
Mohammed assured the public that officers and men deployed along the corridor were tasked with ensuring effective traffic management so that travellers could reach their destinations safely.
