The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has handed over the sum of N1.12 million cash recovered from a fatal crash scene to the family of a deceased victim, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability.
It emphasised that the action underscored the FRSC’s dedication to professionalism and integrity in the discharge of its duties.
The Corps disclosed this in a statement posted on its verified Facebook handle on Monday, noting that the money was recovered during a rescue operation following a tragic accident that occurred on April 11, 2026, at Idu Village along the Gegu–Abaji route on Abuja-Lokoja Highways.
According to the statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, the crash involved a Toyota Corolla car and a Volkswagen Golf car. The driver of the Golf, Mallam Aliyu Mohammed Bala, sustained critical injuries and was later confirmed dead at the hospital despite efforts to save his life.
FRSC said, “During the rescue operation carried out by the Zebra Team, the sum of N1,120,000 alongside other personal valuables were carefully recovered from the scene and duly documented in line with standard operational procedures.”
The Corps added that the recovered money was formally handed over to the victim’s family during a “solemn but dignified event” held at the Command on Monday, April 20, 2026.
“The elder brother of the late victim, Mr. Bala Yakubu, received the sum on behalf of the family, in the presence of credible witnesses, including N. Yusuf and Aminu Mahmud Maku,” the statement read.
The handover was conducted by the Acting Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander RC Ojonugwa E. Ejah, alongside other principal staff of the Command.
Reacting, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the gesture as “another powerful testament to the Corps’ strong commitment to accountability and ethical conduct.”
He also extended condolences to the bereaved family, stating that the Corps shared in their grief and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
