A former chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Enugu State, Barrister John Nwobodo, has accused the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Similanayi Fubara of shifting from his primary duty of ensuring the security and welfare of the people of the state to endangering the lives of the people by inciting violence while in office.

He stated this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Enugu.

Nwobodo alleged that the governor had, in a viral video, prior to the declaration said, “So, let me thank everyone, more especially the youths; be strong. Don’t be perturbed; be strong. I assure you at the right time, you will get instruction.”

Nwobodo noted that the president had in his broadcast, among other reasons, categorically alluded to available security reports of disturbing incidents of vandalisation of pipelines by some militants without the governor taking any action to curtail them.

He averred that the statement of the embattled governor carries the connotation of complicity or aiding and abetting a breakdown of public order and public safety.

The renowned legal practitioner further pointed out that when the governor himself becomes the precipitator of the crisis, the president would be justified under the doctrine of necessity to suspend him.

He maintained that the view about the suspension of the governor as being unconstitutional was a non-starter.
