Fulham head coach Marco Silva has moved quickly to calm concerns surrounding Alex Iwobi’s hamstring injury, insisting the issue is less serious than initially feared.
The Nigerian midfielder was forced off just before halftime during Fulham’s goalless draw against west London rivals Brentford.
The 29-year-old pulled up with the problem in the 43rd minute of the tense Premier League clash and was immediately replaced by fellow Nigerian international Samuel Chukwueze.
Iwobi’s early exit sparked immediate worry among fans and pundits alike, with some fearing the versatile attacker could be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
However, speaking after the final whistle, Silva offered a cautiously optimistic update. “The first reaction I got from Alex – it’s not so bad,” the Portuguese tactician told reporters. “But in the next 24 to 48 hours, we will be more clear about it. A big impact when we lost him.”
Silva’s comments suggest that while Fulham will need to assess Iwobi further, the injury is unlikely to be a long-term absence.
The former Arsenal and Everton star has been a key figure for the Cottagers this campaign, and any extended layoff would have been a significant blow to Silva’s plans. For now, Fulham fans will be hoping the initial diagnosis holds true.
