Nigeria’s connectivity infrastructure service provider, Galaxy Backbone Limited is set to partner with Moharram & Partners, an Egyptian firm, to provider enabling trust-based cyber and cloud solutions that will offer customers a well-rounded approach to cybersecurity.
Managing Director of GBB, Prof. Muhammad Bello Abubakar who disclosed this in Abuja, said partnering is at the heart of the company’s future.
Speaking during a meeting with a team from Moharram & Partners, led by its Vice President Africa and Middle East, Mahmoud Ashraf Hatem, and the Public Policy Manager of KASPERSKY, Mr. Alharbi Thamer, the GBB Boss said the agency was poised to collaborate with relevant public and private sector stakeholders.

Professor Abubakar says the quest for connectivity has transformed interaction with technology and paved the way for advancements in various industries.
The GBB Boss noted that it is fascinating to see how the evolution in the Telecommunications Sector has led to increased interconnectivity between machines and devices.
He said with additional 5G issuance by the federal government to telecom network operators, it is an opportunity to connect with over 200million people for efficiency in connectivity and improvement in the data protection and insulation of service consumers from cyber attacks.
Professor Abubakar said partnering with a company like Moharram and it clients like KASPERSKY, who are global cybersecurity solutions providers, will restore confidence and boost the services rendered to customers by the Galaxy Backbone.
Earlier, the Manager Public Policy, KAPERSKY, Mr. Thamer Alharbi said the visit is to have market access and engagement opportunities with governments agencies to explore the capabilities in it cybersecurity solutions, while soliciting for collaboration with GBB to showcase those products and services into the Nigerian Market.
The meeting is also to assess the potentials in the Nigerian market in order to ensure the cybersecurity of the over 600 MDAs that are direct customers of Galaxy BackBone as basic cloud service provider.
One of the core areas of focus for GBB, which the organisation has expanded and strengthened over the years, is in its Network Communications Infrastructure that is capable of meeting the changing needs of its customers in the environment in which they find themselves.
Its state-of-the-art Network Monitoring & Management Centre helps manage and control the connectivity and unified communications experience of its customers within the public sector.
The main objectives of GBB’s current efforts are to achieve the following: enhance the strengths of GBB in Service Delivery; and position GBB as a crucial partner to services providers in both the public and private sectors. With high-speed fibre optic cables being laid in over 20 states of the federation and more to be deployed in the other parts of the country, speed of connectivity will be significantly improved within a short time.
GBB’s Mandate
Galaxy Backbone was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to operate a nationwide IP-based network that will provide a common platform for connectivity and other infrastructure services for all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
As per the mandate of its parent ministry, the Federal Ministry of Communication, Galaxy Backbone is responsible for the following:
- Be the provider of shared ICT infrastructure, applications and services to all Federal Government MDAs and institutions.
- Building and operating a single nation-wide IP broadband network to provide network services to all Federal Government MDAs and institutions.
III. Deploying and maintaining all national database management systems and transversal applications in government. These include government wide messaging and collaboration, federal public service personnel and payroll system, Government gateway and national portal.
- Set standards and guidelines for the support of government MDAs in the acquisition and acceptable usage of ICT infrastructure, applications and services across different agencies and government institutions.
- Providing Wide Area Networks(WAN) and Metropolitan Area Networks(MAN) to connect all government entities.
Be the provider of technical support to the Ministry of Communication Technology for end to end Quality Assurance of ICT projects and capacity building for ICT professionals in government.
