Galaxy Backbone Unveils Service Portal For Citizen-centred Digital Governance

Galaxy Backbone (GBB) Limited, Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and shared services provider, has launched the Government Service Portal (GSP) to provide a unified digital gateway through which citizens and businesses can easily discover, access, and consume services offered by Government institutions from a single location.

The managing director/ CEO of GBB, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, stated this in his address during the soft launch of the project in Abuja on Tuesday, stressing that it reflects a simple but powerful philosophy—that Government should be organised around the needs of the people, not around institutional boundaries.

He said “for far too long, citizens have had to navigate numerous websites, offices and service channels to interact with the Government. Businesses often spend valuable time searching for the right agency, understanding different processes and completing repetitive administrative requirements

“While individual agencies have made remarkable progress in digitising their services, the citizen’s experience has remained fragmented. The Government Service Portal (GSP) seeks to change that.

“By bringing government services together under one trusted digital gateway, we are simplifying access, improving visibility, promoting consistency and creating a more seamless experience for everyone who interacts with Government.”

He said further that the initiative, which is in collaboration with the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and other agencies, aligns squarely with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, particularly the administration’s commitment to improving public service delivery, deepening digital innovation and creating an enabling environment for economic growth through technology.

“It also supports the federal government’s vision of building an inclusive digital economy where technology serves as an accelerator for national development,” he added.

The GBB boss emphasized that Nigeria has made remarkable progress in this regard through digital identity, digital payments and data exchange platforms, adding that the GSP complements these national assets by opening the citizen-facing gateway through which these foundational capabilities can be experienced in everyday interactions with government.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Nadungu Gagare, who was represented by Johnson Bareiye, said the GSP is the most focused, transparent public service project. He commended the GBB for its commitment in the realization of this project as well as the efforts of the KOICA. He added that the achievement was made through effective collaboration of government agencies and other partners.

The country director of KOICA, who was represented by Senior deputy director Ki Yun Baik, commended the GBB for leading the project as a reliable partner and described it as a “milestone that KOICA had long looked forward to.” He said the GSP is the culmination of years of partnership under the efforts at building the foundations for digital governance in Nigeria.

“The GSP stands as a flagship achievement, a tangible demonstration of sustained cooperation that Korea and Nigeria can accomplish.

“The framework, institutional capacities and digital systems we have developed together are now reflected in a single platform that will enable citizens to access government services more conveniently through one point of entry,” he said.
