Africa Economic Global Convergence (AEGC) has announced that Professor Ibrahim Gambari, renowned Nigerian diplomat and scholar, will be honoured with the AEMA Black Prize Lifetime Achievement Award at its 2025 summit in New York.

The summit, scheduled for September 21–22, 2025, will be held at two iconic venues — the United Nations Headquarters and the Yale Club of New York City — under the theme: “Promoting Investment, Advancing Sustainable Peace, and Expanding Economic Opportunities for Africa’s Transformation.”

According to the organisers, the two-day event will feature global policymakers, business leaders, and thought leaders in panel discussions, keynote addresses, and fireside chats. Conversations will centre on peace and security, economic resilience, inclusive development, and strategic investment in Africa.

A key highlight of the summit is the #InvestInAfrica Business Expo, which will bring together investors and businesses from Africa, Europe, Asia, and the United States to explore cross-continental partnerships and new investment opportunities.

Professor Gambari, who will be celebrated at the summit, is recognised for his outstanding contributions to diplomacy, peacebuilding, and humanitarian service. He served as the Joint AU/UN Special Representative in Darfur, where he championed humanitarian relief, civilian protection, and sustainable peace initiatives, including Operation Spring Basket. He has also held several prominent positions, including President of UNICEF and the first United Nations Special Adviser on Africa.

Throughout his career, Prof. Gambari has consistently advocated for peace as a foundation for development, social justice, and the fight against intolerance and discrimination.
