Former Kano State governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has halted his plan to set up an independent moral police known as Hisbah Fisabilillahi in Kano State.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
LEADERSHIP reports that the proposed establishment of the outfit had caused concerns among stakeholders, prompting the state government to issue a ban on the initiative. Recall that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf issued an executive order on December 8, 2025, after the Ganduje Foundation began distributing recruitment forms to interested persons.
According to the statement, the withdrawal followed a stakeholders’ meeting with representatives from all 44 local government areas of the state held on Tuesday.
“The meeting has resolved the suspension of the establishment of an independent Hisba Fisabilillah to allow the Kano State Government look into the issues amicably,” the statement revealed. “The decision was following widespread outcry that trailed the attempt to establish the Independent Hisbah group and the intervention of stakeholders especially the Kano State Government and department of State Services as well as the former executive Governor of Kano state Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje to ensure Peace and stability.”
