The immediate past chairman of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has set up a 44-member committee to screen 10,000 Hizbah (Sharia Police) personnel who have allegedly been dismissed by the Kano State government.

The job of the committee under the leadership of Baffa Babba Danagundi, firector-general of the National Productivity Centre, will identify and verify the affected individuals to explore avenues to get them rehabilitated and reinstated in other ways.

Danagundi, explained that the initiative is in line with directives issued by the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje.

He added that their dismissal has raised concerns among many stakeholders who are said to be calling for a review of the circumstances surrounding it.

“The Hizbah known for its role in promoting moral conduct and enforcing Islamic values in Kano, has long been a significant institution in the state’s socio-religious landscape” he stated.

The 44-member committee is expected to submit its findings and recommendations within a stipulated timeframe, paving the way for potential policy actions to address the grievances of the dismissed personnel.
