It is fitting to honour the indefatigable Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State as the Grandmaster of Good Governance in Nigeria (GOGGIN) for his infrastructural, developmental, socio-economic,ethical, industrial, agrarian and grassroots-oriented revolution that has placed Gombe State as an undisputed primus inter pares in the league of star performing states of the federation and beyond. This worthy honour should not be mixed up with the prestigious Award of Grand Commander of Security and Peace in Nigeria (GCSPIN) conferred on the Gombe State helmsman by the People’s Security Monitor (PSM) in April 2022 in ‘recognition of his sterling leadership, superlative performance and uncommon commitment to security issues. According to the PSM citation: ‘the decision to confer this highest award on Governor lnuwa Yahaya followed strict scrutiny and comprehensive appraisal of his result-oriented, sterling leadership and immense achievement in security and peace in Gombe State, the Northeast and the North in general’.

This Grandmaster of Good Governance accolade is as a result of Governor lnuwa Yahaya’s renown as a skillful, masterful, perceptive and cognitive paragon of the intricacies of governance and political administration. For instance just like the grandmasters of the legendary chess game, Governor Yahaya has applied wisdom, diplomacy, tact, intuition and masterful strategy to outwit and outmaneuver powerful and influential political foes and adversaries running rings around them until they gave up the battle. Indeed the DanMajen Gombe has emerged in unusually short order as the go-to-guy (as the Americans would say), the most sought after political leader by his fellow governors, top federal civil servants, influential public functionaries, corporate moguls and even high-level foreign diplomats like Baroness Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria who hailed Governor lnuwa Yahaya’s visionary leadership in ensuring excellent inter-communal relations with Christians and Muslims working positively together in the state to take the state to greater heights. Elaborating further, a visibly elated Baroness Laing stated ‘l feel very impressed with his Excellency’s (Governor lnuwa Yahaya’s) vision and his commitment to delivering democratic dividends for his people and l think this is the area where the United Kingdom and Gombe State can collaborate.. the establishment of an industrial park (Muhammadu Buhari lndustrial Park) linked directly to hydro-electricity ( Dadinkowa Hydro-Electric Power Station) to take care of agricultural processing on local crops is a laudable and positive step. We hope to hear more about it so that we can connect some British investors to take advantage of it’ – the High Commissioner added. On the domestic front, many states are borrowing a leaf from Gombe State and incubating a similar revolution in their respective states because Gombe State is undoubtedly the star performing state in the entire Nigerian federation Don’t take my word for it, just ask the Board of Editors of Leadership and Vanguard Newspapers whom overwhelmingly voted Governor lnuwa Yahaya as the Governor of the Year 2021 and Most Outstanding Governor of the Year 2021 respectively. Previously Gombe State has been rated No 1 in the Ease of Doing Business ranking by the National Economic Council under the distinguished chairmanship of Vice President,Yemi Osinbanjo. As if this was not enough, the state has also been rated as the Most Secure and Peaceful State in Nigeria by Statiscense, a data tech, economy and security analysis company and the Most Peaceful State in Nigeria by Eons Intelligence, a media, strategic intelligence and advisory group. Further accolades have come from the Conference of State Directors of Security (SDS) in the Northeast which rated Gombe as the Most Peaceful State in the region. Given the weighty confirmations of Governor lnuwa Yahaya’s giant strides in enthroning good governance, inter-communal pacificism, rapid infrastructural development and fastrack socio-economic growth and progress in his beloved,it is not out of place and it is quite germane and auspicious to garland the high achieving and stellar performing DanMajen Gombe as the Grandmaster of Good Governance in Nigeria (GOGGIN).
