Nigerian actress, Georgina Onuoha, has stirred reactions after raising concerns about domestic violence, child abuse and harmful attitudes towards women in some Igbo communities.

The actress said disturbing videos and images she recently received pushed her to speak out. She stressed that being a family provider does not give any man the right to abuse a woman. According to her, a man’s value is defined by character and integrity, not wealth.

Onuoha also criticised women who mistreat children in their care. She described such behaviour as abuse and said it should never be justified by culture or family arrangements.

She called on traditional rulers, religious leaders and community figures to address the issues openly. The actress also urged women in abusive relationships to leave situations that put them or their children in danger.

“There is a problem in Igbo land,” she said repeatedly, while urging both men and women to do better.
