A 13-year-old girl was reportedly killed when an ancient building collapsed yesterday in Ekiti community.
The incident, which occurred in Igede- Ekiti, headquarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area, it was gathered happened in the early hours of yesterday.
It was also learnt that four other persons, said to be siblings and parents of the deceased child were injured in the process and now receiving treatments in the hospital.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji who spoke during his visit to the site of the building collapse described the incident as devastating and agonising, calling on occupants of dilapidated buildings across the state to relocate to safeguard their lives.
Oyebanji who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Monisade Afuye, also visited Adeyinka Adebayo General Hospital, where some of the victims are receiving medical attention wished them quick recovery and promised that the government will foot their medical bills.
He also directed the Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency (EKSEMA) to arrange for another habitable residence for the family and the commissioner for health, Dr. Oyebanji Filan,i to oversee the treatment of the victims and ensure that they are given the best to recover quickly.
One of the children of the landlord, Lanre Olagunju, who received the entourage, said the incident occurred around 2am yesterday and confirmed that one casualty was recorded.
Olagunju said the building didn’t give prior notice or suspicion before the sudden collapse, saying other occupants of the other wing of the building had immediately relocated after a close shave with death.
