In truth, fashion has gone beyond looking good. It is now about revealing personality. And 2024 is an era where being authentic beats being perfect, an era where personal energy is the new aesthetic. It doesn’t matter if a person is looking at a clothing store or on Pinterest, one thing is clear: people have completely redefined what it means to be stylish.

There are fashion curators everywhere now. People are mixing Y2K nostalgic fashion with luxury. Many fashion enthusiasts have been out there creating a platform for sustainable fashion statements. These designers are not only making eco-friendly wear but equally innovative dresses that tick all the right boxes.

One of such designers is Chisom Clara Aguocha, the talented founder of Giveno. Giveno is a sustainable fashion house that creates pieces with expressive movements. Not to ignore the bragging rights that come with building a brand on something that promotes individuality. Needless to say, the brand has been creating a balance between minimalism and luxury.

Sometimes, people may want to look like a minimalist, especially when attending events that do not require formality. However, this desire to look simple oftentimes comes alongside a desire to channel the “inner fashionista” and give the other attendees a show. This is where Giveno comes in. The brand has looked into the colourful future of fashion and decided that, as much as it is about perfection, creating a balance according to consumers’ needs is important.

And honestly, in the world today, the best-dressed people are not necessarily the richest or the most famous, they are people who have learned to know themselves. Or rather, people who have learnt to care about sustainability and be involved in quality aesthetics. This, in simple terms, is what the Giveno 2024 collection pieces represent.

This is the kind of look that makes a statement before the wearer even does. As a fluid and well-structured design, this piece exudes classic femininity. From the draping at the front to the colour, it is evident that the designer makes good fashion choices.

Although the colour is predominantly grey, the undertones of black make it look more like a contemporary dress. It is giving the vibe of something drawn out of a 90s wardrobe and redefined to look more elegant, exactly the perfect balance between minimalism and luxury.

This piece can be worn to a daytime event or evening occasion, especially as the brocade fabric is thick enough to allow the drapes to hold still and make the dress look more elegant. Also, the sheen of the fabric makes it a picture-worthy dress, because the camera is going to catch the light in all the right angles. Still, the weight of the fabric makes the dress look slightly bulky, and this may hinder movements and airiness in the lower body area for women with shorter bodies.

Yet, this slight need for improvement does not affect the design. It is spontaneous and sophisticated in a way that enhances the wearer’s confidence. Also, the designer’s vision is clear: to create a piece that holds most of its details and creates a visually appealing aesthetic with the beautiful shoulder tie, as well as the knot details around the waistline.

Moreso, this piece is stylish. If it were in a magazine, it would belong in the category for ‘classic femininity.’ But this is not to say it does not require areas for improvement. Firstly, the shoulder area and the lower bodice seem to be competing for attention. The eyes do not know which one to hold onto first.

Also, the colour combination is too monochromatic; if the designer could add a more subtle contrast, like a black and gold material, rather than black and silver, this piece would become an excellent runway material. Not to forget that the hemline looks unfinished and could be more refined by aligning all the edges to be equal.

Sophisticated. Sensual. Powerful. What other adjective can be used to qualify this gorgeous piece that embodies all the designer’s artistic experimentation? From the colour, it is easy to say that this wine, with its white and black combination, is elegant. This choice of colours creates a harmony that looks modern.

The two-piece exudes a form of youthful energy that radiates from the fabric. This blend of burgundy and cotton provides a visual balance that quickly elevates the two-piece from being ordinary to looking sophisticated. Also, the design is thoughtful. While it shows simplicity, there is also the flow it gives to the structure.

The designer’s decision to make the top white and create a visual harmony on the skirt is smart. By doing this, the eyes can rest when looking at the top and then flow into a more defined silhouette. The skirt looks flirty with the ruffles and is a creative statement for evening dinners.

However, the lower part of it looks like too much work was done. By simplifying the ruffles, the length of the fabric will look better. Also, the wine colour should be replaced. Choosing a better shade, such as burgundy or brown, would better soften the aesthetics of the dress and improve the flow between the three colour tones.

In this last piece of the Giveno Mermaid Ruffles Collection, it is obvious that the designer decided to celebrate poise and power. This piece is neither romantic nor event-worthy in an informal way, it makes a powerful impression.

The most striking feature of this two-piece is the colour. The beautiful red colour is what makes the two different fabric textures flow easily. Also, the slight variation in the colour tones makes the attire look elegant.

Additionally, the designer has proven to be intentional about making the piece look modern. By creating a satin and lace combo, the contemporary nature of this outfit is no longer obvious. Especially since from the puffy sleeves and cinched waist, one would be able to tell that this is not entirely a modern design.

Moreso, the styling is right on point, because the outfit looks ideal for any woman who intends to walk into a room and immediately own it. And what makes it look even more regal is the colour choice. Although some societal beliefs may relate red to passion and sensuality, this piece relates more to the African culture, where red contextually signifies royalty.

Overall, this is a regal piece, and the designer has managed to keep all attention exactly where it belongs. But this only reveals the necessary adjustments that should be made to the sleeves. It looks too puffy and doesn’t seem like the right match for the skirt. Also, the waistline area of the top could use a more defining detail; a belt or lace embroidery would have been a better divide for that area.

Ultimately, the designer has been able to achieve what others strive for, balance. Each piece in this collection is in different shades of power, and all have been able to reveal the designer’s fashion design prowess. Kudos to Giveno!
