The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has called on Nigerians to demonstrate greater nationalism by supporting the administration of Bola Tinubu amid growing global uncertainties.
Barau made the call on Friday when he spoke with journalists at the National Eid Ground in Abuja after the two-unit (rakat) Eid prayer led by Illiasu Usman of the National Mosque.
He said that rallying behind the Federal Government would fast-track Nigeria’s journey toward prosperity, noting that the country is not immune to global challenges.
According to him, ongoing crises in parts of the Middle East and Europe, and their ripple effects across the world, make it imperative for Nigerians to unite and support the government in navigating the associated economic and security pressures.
“What we need at this time is to continue supporting Mr President, all of us, and to continue praying for him so that he can succeed in his efforts to bring prosperity to our nation.
“We are facing global problems that are all over the world. We can see what is happening in the Middle East and other parts of the world.
“The world is full of challenges, and we are not an exception. So what we need at this period is to continue to support the President and pray for our nation, because we know, all of us who are working with him, that he is determined to bring prosperity to our nation,” he said.
Following the prayers, Barau congratulated the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the globe on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, praying for unity and wisdom for the nation’s leaders.
He extended his felicitations to President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other leaders, while praying for divine guidance in steering the country toward growth and stability.
“May Allah help our country, unite our people, and support Mr President in his efforts to reform the nation for the better and bring prosperity to all,” he added.
In his remarks, Imam Illiasu Usman urged leaders at all levels to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity, stressing that sustainable development cannot thrive in an environment plagued by violence.
He noted that Nigeria possesses the resources and capacity to decisively confront criminal elements and restore peace.
“Since genuine development cannot take place in an insecure or violence-ridden society, governments at all levels must intensify their fight against criminals in our midst,” he said.
