A chieftain of the World Taekwondo Federation, Grand Master Kim Lee, has heaped praise on the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), commending its significant contributions to unearthing and cultivating the sport across the nation.
Grand Master Lee, who also serves as President of the World Taekwondo Master Union, spoke to journalists after being honoured by the NTF during the ongoing National Open Trials. He appealed to all stakeholders to maintain their support for the federation’s President and its board members.
“Nigeria holds immense importance due to its substantial population and the considerable number of individuals actively participating in sport,” Grand Master Kim Lee stated. “The country exhibits tremendous potential in Taekwondo, and it is imperative for both the government and the wider community to rally behind the President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, as she is working tirelessly to expand and refine the sport.”
Grand Master Kim Lee further expressed his satisfaction with the calibre of performances demonstrated by the athletes. He confidently suggested that Nigeria possesses the capability to secure medals at the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics.
“I witnessed numerous young athletes today, and I firmly believe they represent the stars of the future,” he remarked. “We are currently in 2026, and the Olympics are merely a few years away. Given the dedication of Grand Master Tayo Popoola, I am convinced that Nigerian Taekwondo athletes will achieve outstanding results at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.”
The National Open Trials are currently serving as the crucial selection ground for athletes who will go on to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming African Championship in Bamako, Mali.
