The Accountant General of Gombe State, Aminu Yuguda, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, pledging to build on the legacy of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Yuguda made the declaration on Thursday when he submitted his letter of intent at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Gombe amid a large turnout of supporters who gathered to endorse his ambition.

Addressing party faithful and supporters, Yuguda said his aspiration is anchored on sustaining the developmental template established by Governor Yahaya.

“I have no template apart from the governor’s template. Everyone can see how the governor has delivered, and that template will continue to work for Gombe State,” he said.

He stressed that his decision to formally notify the APC of his ambition was driven by a desire to ensure continuity in governance and consolidate on the administration’s achievements.

Responding, the Gombe APC chairman, Muhammad Ndus, commended Yuguda for formally presenting his aspiration to the party, describing the massive turnout of supporters as evidence of growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and popularity in the state.

Ndus urged all aspirants and party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that cohesion within the party would be crucial to retaining power.

Meanwhile, in a related development, architect and prominent APC stalwart, Arc. Yunusa Yakubu, the managing director, Lubell Nigeria Ltd. has withdrawn from the race.

In a statement he personally signed, Yakubu acknowledged the appeals from supporters and stakeholders who had encouraged him to seek the governorship, saying he deeply appreciated their confidence in his leadership abilities.

“After deep review of these calls and the situation, and also the consultations I made widely, I wish to respectfully and regrettably convey that I may not likely be contesting in the forthcoming gubernatorial race,” he stated.

Yakubu urged his supporters to respect the direction of the APC and align with the decisions of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, reaffirming his commitment to the development of Gombe State in other capacities.

He called on party faithful to remain united and continue supporting the APC-led administration in the interest of the state’s progress.
