The Gombe State government has commenced the construction of public toilet facilities across strategic locations in the state to enhance sanitation, public health, and environmental dignity.

The initiative is part of the government’s efforts to eradicate open defecation and improve hygiene standards, particularly in public spaces, schools, healthcare centres, and densely populated communities.
The first phase of the project will benefit key locations, including the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Kumo, Kundulum community, Wuri Biriji Primary School, Jalingo Ashaka, Model Primary School Bajoga, Bambam, Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Doma, and Central Primary School.

In an interview, the Director-General (Press Affairs), Ismaila Uba Misilli, said the facilities are being constructed with a focus on sustainability and inclusivity.

He explained that each structure is designed to cater to the needs of women, children, and persons with disabilities, ensuring that all citizens have dignified access to safe and hygienic toilet services.

“This intervention is not just about building toilets; it’s about safeguarding public health, restoring human dignity, and promoting environmental cleanliness,” the governor’s spokesperson said.
Misilli further pointed out that the initiative is a step in Gombe State’s alignment with the national campaign to end open defecation in Nigeria by 2025.
